Background
Howard was raised in a secular home in the Bronx; however he was deeply influenced by his orthodox grandparents.
The Jonas couple met in Harvard, where they both attended.
Later on they moved to Riverdale, where Howard studied in the Hebrew Institute. They raised their nine children there.
During the 90's Howard established IDT, a corporation involved in telecommunications, high-tech and entertainment industries.
Today, he is among the world's leading Jewish philanthropists. Jonas and his wife give away more than 20 percent of their income to charity, favoring causes that help the impoverished. In 2018, Debbie and Howard were presented with the Dr. David Applebaum Chesed Award by Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Activities
Debbie and Howard played a critical role in the establishment of the Weinstock Department of Emergency Medicine on the Fanya Gottesfeld Heller Floor and the Helmsley Neurological Center.
